New Cell Phone Policy! Rickover Cell Phone and Personal Technology Policy

Illinois Law SB 2427 prohibits the use of cell phones in classrooms. All schools must enact this law by SY 27-28 but Rickover will begin the transition this year because it is a law that positively impacts your student’s success! This law creates distraction-free classrooms that allow students to learn and grow without the attention demands of cell phones.

In response, Rickover cadets will place their cell phones in their lockers upon arrival at school. They may retrieve their cell phones for lunch, but must return them to their lockers before class.  Students will be permitted to use cell phones in the building after school.

If a student’s phone is visible in class, the teacher will confiscate it, secure it in a padded envelope, and send it with security personnel to the Dean of Students who will contact parents to schedule a pick-up. Cell phones that are confiscated will only be released to parents.

By extension the use of distracting technology such as Smart Watches or Meta glasses will be restricted and/or prohibited at Rickover.  Smart Watches: Students will be asked to keep them in their lockers for the duration of the school day.  Meta Glasses: Students may not have Meta Glasses at school. Recording others without their knowledge is against the law in Illinois. Therefore, they will not be allowed on campus.
