The Rickover Naval Academy Drill Team took 3rd Overall at the Chicago-land Drill Meet held at Wheeling High School on 1 February 20.
The highlight of the competition was the Rickover Naval Academy New Cadet Team, which scored a perfect 1000 on it's way to winning first in that event. Coach Walter Thompson has done a tremendous job with the new cadets, which will be the future of the Rickover Naval Academy Drill Team! The New Cadet Captain, Cadet K Beard, was instrumental in the team's outstanding performance.
Other outstanding performances came from the Unarmed Exhibition Team Coached by Chief Terri Lee and Captained by Cadet A Marcu. The team looked exceptional on their way to taking second, but they continue to get better and will be shooting for first in its next competition, Area 3, on 28-29 Feb 20.
The Color Guard Team Coached by Chief Les Thomas and Captained by Cadet J Mendoza, had a very good performance and came away with 3rd place.
The Armed Drill Team coached by Senior Chief Petty Officer Ken Stapleton, and Captained by Cadet L Symonds, took 4th Place, as did the Armed Exhibition Drill Team, also coached by Senior Chief Petty Officer Stapleton and captained by Cadet A Mendoza.
Some of the teams Rickover competed against include: Zion Benton HS, Saint John's Northwest, Northridge (OH), Portage (IN), East Aurora HS, Proviso East HS, Proviso West HS, Taft HS (CPS), Freeport HS, Westinghouse HS (CPS), Wheeling HS, Waukeegan HS, Pritzker (CPS Charter), North Chicago HS, Bloom Trail HS and Crete Monet HS.
